As the Dallas Cowboys work to finalize their 53-man roster by 4 p.m. on August 29, 2023, word is leaking out about the brutal cuts that had to be made.
Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News reported that the organization informed veteran defender Quinton Bohanna of his release.
According to a tweet from Cowboys insider Tim Gehlken on August 29th, "the cutdown to a 53-man roster will close a chapter for some members of the 2021 draft class
The arrival of Mazi Smith this summer has made Bohanna, a journeyman who started nine games for Dallas in 2022, expendable. The defensive player made 19 tackles in 13 games played last year, largely as a run stopper by clogging the middle of the defensive line.
Bohanna was just halfway through his four-year, $3.6 million contract when he was dismissed. By cutting ties with Bohanna, Dallas will save nearly $900,000 in 2023 salary cap space
Bohanna was due $940,000.The offseason has been dominated by rumors that Bohanna would be released. The defender had been an integral part of the team's rotation for the previous two years, yet the decision nonetheless raised eyebrows
If Bohanna goes unclaimed on waivers, Dallas may try to re-sign the defensive tackle to the team's practice squad.
